De ultieme rangschikking van Jason Isbell songs
Is dit spul country-music? Rock? Folk? Een of andere absurde dubbel-hyphenated hybride? Echt, de muziek van Jason Isbell tart vaak het genre. De teksten van deze kerel zijn als drie-en-een-halve minuut romans of indie-films. Er is veel gesproken over Isbell’s twee meesterwerken na zijn rehabilitatie, Southeastern uit 2013 en Something More Than Free uit 2015. En hun helderziende schittering verdient lof (inclusief de twee Grammy’s). Maar er zijn juweeltjes op alle vijf Isbell solo studio LP’s, evenals de muziek die hij maakte met zijn voormalige band, Drive-By Truckers. Aangezien Isbell onlangs begon te werken aan zijn zesde studioalbum, leek het ons interessant om de bestaande nummers in zijn catalogus te rangschikken. (Live tracks en covers werden echter weggelaten.)
